USB Mouse Unable to connect

I've been trying to hook up my USB mouse to my pc for the last hour or
so because it stopped working, now whenever I try to put it in the USB
port it says "USB Device Not Recognized" it is a Microsoft IntelliMouse
Explorer 3.0, anyone know how to fix this?

Ok, I got it to work for a few seconds then it kept on
connecting/disconecting, any reason why this is happening?

I just went through the same thing just a while back. I was using a MS
Intellimouse Optical with version 4. The mouse had worked perfectly for
about 4 months, then just quit. I ended up contacting MS support & they had
me check for any previous installed mouse drivers and remove them, then
reinstall intellimouse software, but it still would not work. MS ended up
sending me a replacement mouse at no charge. It works fine now. I have
never had a mouse go defective, but I guess it was afterall. If it will
help I will forward their step by step instructions to you also.
