I've been having this annoying mouse problem for days now and I can't seem to
firgure out how to fix it! Sometimes when I'm just browsing my mouse freezes
up and my computer makes that little "New Hardware Detected" noise 3 or 4
times and then my optical laser mouse's light just shuts off completely. I
can fix it by plugging it back in but for some reason it keeps freezing up
and shutting off like the USB doesn't recognize it or something...only a
temporary fix. I've tried re-installing the mouse but my computer only picks
it up as "Hardware" and keeps asking me for a "disk" when I'm pretty sure it
should install automatically. Any help would be great!

Buy a new mouse, most likely a wire is broken, as you move the mouse
it disconnects and reconnects.

First thing to try is a known working mouse.

Well I haven't exactly bought a new mouse yet since I found another unused
Logitech laser mouse and was relieved to have something that works.. but now
I have a new problem (ugh!).. I plugged it in to see if my computer would
pick it up.. and it did but I have no software disk for it (and I'm told I
shouldn't need one and that it should download automatically) and yet it
still continues to ask me for a disk or some other software.. is it possible
to find this out on the internet? Or is there a way I can make my computer
pick up a new mouse device without completely deleting my old one? Thanks
again for your previous and current help...

Pick your mouse model and follow the prompts.
(be aware that the "set point" software is a large download, it includes
keyboard drivers as well)
During the install you can select "mouse only" if required

You're welcome. Go to logitech's website and download their latest mouse
driver for that model.
