USB Modem - hsfinst.dll slow to install

I have a pretty big XPe load. I am trying to install a US Robotics USB
modem. During the installation, the system almost freezes installing the
file hsfinst.dll. It will eventually get passed it and the modem will be
installed. But the funny thing is the modem still doesn't show up when I
use Hyperterminal even though it does show as a COM2 modem under Control
Panel.

Any thoughts as to why the install of the hsfinst.dll is so slow under XPe?
And why the modem doesn't appear under the Hyperterminal device list?

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,

Could it be that you have missed some of the dependencies of the modem driver?
Have you run the hsfinst.dll (any other files from the driver package) through Dependency Walker?
You can try XPProEmulation project from www.xpefiles.com to see how it works on the biggest image (I assume you don't see this
problem on XP Pro).

- I review the dependancies with DepWalker and I have accounted for all of
them.
- The modem does install on a XP Pro install.
- I have't tried your XPProEmulation yet.

What is strange is that yesterday I installed it and it took away but
eventually got installed. Today - it hangs while it is trying to install it.

Oh well, such is life with an embedded system.
