I have a usb mass sotrage device that does not show on a windows xp machine. It shows on all others. The usb port is working and appears under device manager. But it does not show up where I can access it or the files on it. Is there some type of security or view setting I need to set.

Hi,

I have a usb mass sotrage device that does not show on a windows xp machine. It shows on all others. The usb port is working and appears under device manager. But it does not show up where I can access it or the files on it. Is there some type of security or view setting I need to set.

Open regedit (start > run > regedit)
browse to this key
HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usb

create a new value:
Name of the Value: DisableSelectiveSuspend
Data type: REG_DWORD
Decimal
Value: 1

you are not by change running tweakui are you? If so you may have limited

I have the same problem but only when users are logged onto our Novell
Network on their XP PCs. The F: drive is mapped by scripts, so when a user
connects a pen drive it maps to the same drive. I know I can Right-click My
Computer, Manage, Disk Management, Right-click on the device and assign a
drive letter that's not in use but imagine having to do this on 2000 PCs!!!
Also, if a PC has more than one USB port you're only re-assigning the drive
letter for that one port.

I have a similar problem. When i open regedit i can't find:
HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usb
the closest i see are:
HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR
and HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usbhub.

I created a folder USB and put in the stuff u said earlier but nothing
happened. Can you help me?
