USB keys and SP2

I just deployed Service Pack 2 to my lab computers (100+) and I have found an
issue that is causing me to bang my head against a wall. Previously with
SP1, users were able to bring in their USB keys and use them as removable
storage. They would plug in the USB key and have no problem using the key as
a removable drive. After deploying SP2 to the lab, when they plug in their
USB keys, they receive the message: "You must be a member of the
Administrators group on this computer to install this hardware." They can
click thru the error warnings and still use their USB keys as before. This
warning appears for each unique USB key so there is no way of pre-loading the
drivers for that hardware. My question is: How can I allow the users to
"install" this non-persistent hardware or to prevent this message from
showing to the user. I would prefer to prevent the message because their
removable storage works anyways. I have tried giving the users permissions
to “load and unload device drivers†in user rights assignments but to no
avail. Any ideas?

Nick,
Have you found a solution to your problem? I'm experiencing a similar
problem and am looking for a fix.

Dana,

The solutution to my problem was to do a "repair" install with a Windows XP
SP2 slipstream disc. The repair install allowed me to reinstall the needed
Windows XP files and I did not have to reinstall all my applications.
Everything worked perfectly afterwards. I just did the repair install and
then reapplied all the security updates and I was up and running.
