USB Hard Drive

I upgraded from Win98 SE to XP Home. I had a working Acomdata external USB
2.0, 60 GB Hard Drive running under Win 98 SE

XP sees the drive but wants to format it.

I have a removable boot drive and also tinker with Linux. If I boot under
Linux, the drive and all its data is there ... just like it was under 98 SE

I went to the Acomdata site for a driver, but they say their drive works
out-of-the-box with XP

I put in a support request ... but ... looks like the vendor off-shore'd
their tech support and the tech rep doesn't understand the problem ...

I downloaded the latest usb 2.0 drivers for XP ... same problem

.... any suggestions ?

How does XP "sees" the drive? If you plug the drive in
after booting XP, does it show in My Computer?
Have you right clicked on My Computer and selected
Manage/storage/disk management to see if it is assigned a
drive letter? Is it presently formatted as FAT32 or some
other FAT format?
