Hi.
I've got a usb flash drive Corsair 2GB.
I was fantastic. But now it is not always recognised in any pc. Some times
it will see it. Sometimes it will say do you want to format drive now. and
other times it just does nothing.
I have tried to check disc for errors and auto fix if any, Ive formatted it
in Fat and Fat32. but it still does the same.
Now it is not reliable.
Does anyone know if there is a way to fix it or is it dying?
Thanks for any help

More than likely there isn't any problem with the flash drive. More than
likely it is Windoze doing its USB Shuffle ... getting totally confused
about what USB device is plugged in. When it comes to handling USB2, XP is
pretty braindead. There have been suggestions that if you go into Device
Manager and remove all USB devices and reboot your 'puter, that Windoze
will "rediscover" them and sort things out. Sometimes this will work and
sometimes it won't. With Windoze, USB2 functionality can become a total
crapshoot.

Have you used the encryption software that comes on
the small CD to create an encrypt part or to encrypt
the whole drive? Then you have to install the software
on all computers you want to use the encrypted part
on.
But it does not explain the 'want to format drive now'
thing...

Similar story here, with some details. I built a PC for my daughter. She
needed some drivers, free 3rd party software (Acrobat reader for instance),
and an AV installation. I put this all on a Sandisk 1GB thumb drive (USB2
capable) from my XP w/SP2 PC. Took it to her PC at her home, it accessed
and all worked fine. Took the thumb drive back to the house where I tried
to access it with 98SE, worked fine before. 98SE could not see it, said it
needed formatted. Rebooted (3rd party boot manager) and booted to XP w/SP2.
XP saw all the contents. Moved all from the thumb drive to a hard disk
partition folder. Formatted the thumb drive, and moved all back to the
thumb drive. 98SE saw all fine this time. Its been that way now for 6
months, so I guess its reliable. And, I've continued to use the thumb drive
locally on this one PC since that time of last format. And, with a windows
ME PC that I also have in the house. So, my guess is, there's something
that's not being told about accessing a thumb drive on another PC that may
affect that thumb drive when attempting to access it again from the original
PC.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I have not got the encryption software installed.
Thinking about it I dont use the "safely remove hardward feature, i just
pull it out.
I wonder if this has damaged it.
Xp used to see it every time and in every pc so i still think it may be
damaged.?
Thanks again.
