I installed a DSL modem that works OK, but I see the
following message in the error log:

The General Purpose USB Driver (adildr.sys) service
failed to start due to the following error: The service
cannot be started, either because it is disabled or
because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Any ideas as to what is causing that?

This looks like an auxiliary service that got installed along with the
modem but which is not necessary to it. If things are working, there
should be no need to take action; but if you like, see if you can
identify it in Admin Tools - Services. Then double click and check the
file used is that one, and set Startup type to Manual. If it *is*
needed then it will get started; if not it will not try and the message
should go
