I had any earlier post about Universal Plug & Play and
did what was suggested - Thank You.
However, it did not correct the problem.

USB devices such as Mass Storage Devices are recognized
if plugged in when system boots up but if I unplug the
device after system is running and plug it back it in it
is not recognized.

I updated XP Home to XP Prof and before the update
everything was working perfectly.

Any help would be appreciated.

It could be helpful to paste in the earlier post so that one can understand what was done earlier to try and help...

Hi

Are you unplugging the USB device the proper method. Right click on the taskbar where u see the green arrow and say "Stop Device" and then only detach the device only when it says it is safe to do so

Do not attempt to unplug the USB device by just pulling it out

I have this same problem from time to time -- Try plugging your hardware into a differnet USB port, especially if you are using a Hub.

Hi -mike-

Some times C:\WINDOWS\INF\INFCACHE.1 is corrupted
Just try to delete this file (in a hidden directory) - it will be rebuilded
from all the .INF
If it still not works, there may also be a corrupted .INF - but 1st try the
hint with INFCACHE.1 (or just rename it).

Cheers,
Hausi
