I have a Western digtal USB2.0/firewire external hard
drive. I just bought it a couple weeks ago, everythings
working good, untill today. When I plugged in the hard
drive into the USB port, I received bubble poppup telling
me "USB Device not recognized".

I tried plugging the hard drive into different ports,
however still receiving the same problem.

Has anyone ever heard of this error before?

athlon xp 2800
a7n8x deluxe mobo
WinXP SP1

thanks.

try to plug in, and if there's still no recognisation, just go to ADD NEW
HARDWARE, and run the wizard, let your computer to check for new hardware.

good luck,

Double check and make sure the drive is working properly on other
computers. Try both Firewire and USB to see if either work.

It is possible that your drive was corrupted (which can actually happen
easier than you would think on an external), but I am just throwing this
out there for a possibility (though not likely).

Was this Hard Drive bought as an external, or did you put a HD in an
external casing?
