Hi,

This is a blanket question I'd just like to see if there's any known
documentation.
It seems that USBs in general seem to lose or drop a connection after
awhile, rather it
be an external HD or a UPS. Is this the nature of USBs, I have about 3
servers
using a UPS via a USB connection and on a regular basis it loses the
connection
on all the servers.

Thanks,

By default, XP sets the powering handling for all USB Root Hubs to
"Turn off this Device to Save Power". De-selecting this option may
resolve your issue. Double-Click each Root Hub, Power Mgmt (TAB).

Hi,

Thanks for posting here.

I agree with R. McCarty, your issue may be related to power saving.

So, please open Device Manager from System Properties, expand Universal
Serial Bus controllers, and then double-click USB Root Hub, click Power
Management tab, uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to
save power" checkbox, and then test this issue.

In addition, you may also refer to the UPS manual to check whether there is
any similar "power saving" function on the UPS device.

Hope this helps!

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,
