Hi All
Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between a USB 1.1 cable and a
USB 2.0 cable ?
Will our old USB 1.1 cable transfer data as fast as the new 2.0 ?
If i have a USB 2.0 device and use the USB 1.1 cable will it be as fast as
if i had a 2.0 cable?
I see they advertise 2.0 cables and wonderd if this was just a gimic to get
us to buy new cables,
or do we really need them.
THANKS--
Carl

Basically there is no difference.

Yes your old cables will work with the 2.0 device, you may have problems
with lower quality cables.
If I have a USB 2.0 device and use the USB 1.1 cable will it be as fast as
if I had a 2.0 cable?
Yes it will.

There *should* be no difference...but...with any cables there are degrees of
manufacturing quality, wire gauge, shielding, ability to withstand abuse,
etc. If a cable is labeled USB 2.0, you're pretty much guaranteed it's going
to be fine at that speed. If it's labeled USB 1.1, it's probably just fine
at the higher speed, but it's not a guarantee.

I haven't actually run across *any* USB cables that haven't worked at faster
speeds, but I have run across other cables, most notably printer and VGA
cables, where quality/brand/gauge did make a difference.

You're risking nothing by trying whatever cables you have. If your USB
device has problems -- intermittent errors, disconnection for no reason,
problems with data transfer -- then you can try a better cable and see if it
makes a difference. And save the old cable for a different device that might
not be so picky.

FWIW;

"Do USB 1.1 cables work with USB 2.0 devices?
Ideally, yes. USB 2.0 architecture uses the same cables and connectors as
USB 1.1 compliant products. Unfortunately, only 3 out of 11 cables on the
market are certified as USB 1.1 compliant. You may run into the cables that
cause problems connecting high-speed peripherals. To avoid negative user
experience, most vendors include USB 2.0 compliant cables with their USB 2
PCI cards and peripherals."
