Which is faster: USB 2.0 or Firewire (IEEE 1394)?

Which is better for making movies from a miniDV camcorder?

I have a Sony camcorder with both USB and Firewire. Which is more reliable
in terms of converting or making a DVD? Should I connect the camcorder
directly to my computer or go through a box like Canopus ADVC 100?

If your Sony camcorder is like mine, the usb port on your camera is for
transferring still photos from the memory stick. The firewire port is for
transferring video. This is how the current crop of camcorders seem to be
configured.
