Since I installed 4 critical updates,
KB835732,828741,837001, 837009 every time I switch off my
drop-down URL list in the address bar disappears. I can
still get history. I have not cleared history and I
increased retention days from 20 to 30 which didn't cure
the problem.
Any advice please?

Hi,

Bizzarre things happen when you clear list. There are a couple places that
may affect this display...

Location 1:
=========
1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click Tools->Internet options->General Tab
3. 'Clear History' wipes out the History, the Typed urls, and (with a
reboot) the Start Run entries on many systems.

Location 2: (on XP systems it says "clear list")
=========
With IE5, the standard windows option to clear the document list from the
start menu will also remove all the History registry entries (& again
with a re-boot \ Explorer restart the Run entries may disappear too).

Start | Settings | Taskbar & Start Menu | <Start Menu Program tab> | Clear
documents button.

Location 3:
=========
Some tweaking utilities, windows policies or registry settings may have
similar effects. For instance, the TweakUI powertoy has a setting to "Clear
documents, run and typed URL history" under the <IE> or <IE5> tabs.
