Url Rewriting: How to handle no file name?

I can't add .* to ISS mappings, so how do I handle the situation when the url
looks something like this:

http://MyUrl/2004/10/23

I could require the users to type http://MyUrl/2004/10/23/index.toc, but I
prefer not to. There must be a way to set this in IIS?

the only way to do this is to have empty "mock" directories with
default.aspx in each one of them.... is there a better way??

write your own isapi filter to handle the redirection of the directory
request to your .net handler http://MyUrl/myHandler.ashx?2004,10,23 or
something similar

IC.. so it looks like it's the only way then... I'll have to check if we have
any constraints deploying the site with the filter.
An ability to specify in IIS that folders with no files be handled by
asp.net dll would be a nice thing to have...
