URL Issues

After installing XP SP2, I am having problems with the
formatting of URL Adresses.

I used to be able to type in www.yahoo.com and it would
connect just fine, but now it takes up to 3 minutes to
load. If i goto http://www.yahoo.com the page comes up
right away.

This happens with virtually every website. I only get a
quick response when i type the http:// in front of the web
address.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
