I got an urgent problem with Outlook 2003: After installation of OL2003 and
setting up the Outlook profile including e-mail accounts (POP3) I can
receive e-mails JUST ONCE (?!?). When pressing Send/Receive for a second
time, I get the error message:
"Error (0x800408FC): Server cannot be found in network (network probably not
available)"
(translated from German and shortened)
Restarting Outlook doesn't help. Neither does deleting the .pst file and
using a new one nor anything else, except setting up a whole new profile,
for example by deleting the appropriate whole registry key
HKeyCurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\WinNT\CuurentVersion\WindowsMessages\Subs
ystem\Profiles\Outlook
Most other things still work:
- SENDING e-mail in OL2003
- testing account settings in the e-mail account settings (except that the
test e-mail cannot be received later)
- using the same account settings in Outlook Express (sending AND receiving)
- using HTML web access for the same account
What doesn't work either:
- restarting OL2003
- trying different e-mail accounts (I got plenty ;-) )
- deleting outlook.pst and having OL2003 create a new one (because e-mail
accounts stay the same)
- trying different dial-up accounts
- messing around with WinXP firewall settings
- trying the same with a different user account (WinXP; both users have
admin privileges)
I'm using WinXP Prof over dial-up networking. Tried different accoun
Outlook Express on the other hand works perfectly with the same accounts.
