Could anyone help me with a problem I've never come across before???

I have an external hard drive which i use to store all my pictures, MP3's, etc.
In one of my folders I have over 1000 pictures of my children and family, I went to access it this morning and found that half of them were missing. Luckily I have most on another folder on my C drive... So i went to place them back onto my F drive (External drive) but it says the file is still there (i.e. Do I want to replace it?).

So it seems as though I still have the files in the folder, they just cannot be seen.

My PC caught that sasser worm virus yesterday and I had to install Norton anti virus to remove it.
I was just wondering whether this may have something to do with these pictures strangley going missing... although no other folder seems to be aqffected.

The pictures are saved in alphabetical order and all are still there up to the letter M. The rest seem to have just vanished.

Any ideas anyone??????
This certainly has me stumped... I've never seen this happen before.

Best wishes

Kev

Hi Nick,

I have backed up my pics.. They are all on my C: drive and on CD...

I store tghem on my External drive as well, they were all in one folder, but half dissapreared. But when I tried to move the pics from my C: drive back into my external drive, it asked if I wanted to replace them (i.e. Basically saying that the pics were still there).
For the past few days I havnt been able to run a defrag on my external drive... it kept saying that chkdsk is set to run (Or whatever it says)... But I've just this second finished running a scan disk (Another thing which would'nt work on my external drive up until today) and the pictures are back.

It seems I just needed to run a scan disk then.

Weird though, as I've never known that happen.. where it removes files from view.

Regards

Kev

I bet you're running everything under NTFS instead of FAT32. We just had a 600K file zero-filled on a 2003 server. Restore restore restore ...

I am beginning not to trust NTFS.

Back up, good. Are all the file types the same...

In the folder in question click tools then folder options then view. Check all the buttons so you can see all files, like hidden and system.

WHY, Why, why - do people wait UNTIL they are infected, to install the
protection they should have had on their computer from the beginning?

I guess I will never understand!

But hey! It sure do bring in the bucks.

I worked on 15 computers on Sunday night at $50.00 a pop. Not bad for a
nights work (-:
