Uploading Photos from my camera

I have a 128MB flash card in my digital camera and was
told by the dealer that I purchased my computer from that
Window XP cannot directly upload photos from anything
larger than a 64MB card. I therefore purchased a card
reader and it works just fine. However, this seems rather
ridiculous when I could directly upload to Windows 98 from
my 128MB card. Any comments would be appreciated.
 
This was true with some cameras (HP in particular as I recall) when memory
cards larger than 32 MB started to come in. It was corrected by simply
updating the XP driver for these larger cards. However, it is usually faster
to download with a card reader than directly from the camera.
