On a new computer that came with Windows XP Home I tried to update to
Windows XP Pro. I get an error message that the version already
installed is newer than the version I am trying to install. This
doesn't make sense as they are two different programs. Also, how do I
boot from the Windows XP CD?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Larry;
Does Windows XP Home installed have Service Pack 2 while Windows XP Pro has
SP-1 or no SP?
If so, Pro also needs SP-2 on the CD or you will get that error.
Windows XP Home SP-2 reads newer than Windows XP Pro with SP-1 or no SP.
Otherwise uninstall SP-2 before upgrading to Windows XP Pro.

Integrate SP2 into your XP Pro CD or uninstall SP2 from yor XP Home
installation and retry the upgrade.
