Setup of Windows XP US decides not to proceed because I
have different language version of Win98 in my computer.
Any solutions?

One cannot upgrade from one language version of Windows to
another language version. You'll need to purchase a "full version"
of Windows XP in your desired language version and then perform
a "clean install".

Thank you for your prompt answer.

I'm surprised that you can't upgrade from a different
language. It makes harder for people to move between
countries in this global community. And I only found US
versions of XP at Fry's.

I have naturally opened the package and Fry's probably
won't take it back (btw the package was very difficult to
open). Did I pay $97.41 for nothing?

If you purchased an "upgrade version" of Windows XP,
and have an old Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/2000
installation CD available (in the same language version
as your Windows XP CD), then you can still use that
Windows XP to perform a "clean install".

Hi Carey

Thanks again for your very fast response.

Yes I have a W98 CD but I'm afraid it is in a stock in
Finland with the rest of the things I thaught I wouldn't
need here :(

The only place I have W98 here is on the hard disk where
it was installed by the PC vendor. Unfortunately it is
corrupted after tens of updates and is not functional any
more (crashing especially during web browsing with IE).

The cost for full XP is over $200 ($189 or $199 with taxes
at Fry's). With the already spent $97.41 I would be using
over $300 for XP upgrade. With $378 I could have bought a
new PC. Or I should have...

I will not purchase the full XP.

Why would anybody want to prevent an upgrade from one
language to another? Do license terms forbid me to take
Finnish Windows to another country?
