Upgrading to XP

I am trying to upgrade from Win 98 SE to Win XP.

The upgrade fails and I receive the following error message
(s):

1)Missing file
\windows\info\biosinfo.inf

2)Setup was unable to verify drive C:.
Your computer may not have enough memory to examine the
drives, or your windows XP CD may contain some corrupted
files.
To continue, press ENTER.

3)Setup cannot access the CD containing the windows XP
installation files.
To retry, press ENTER. If you are not successful after
several tries quit setup. Then, to restart setup, copy
the windows XP installation files to your hard disk.
To quit setup, press F3.

For error #1 - How do I access and fix a BIOS error?

For error #2 - I have 256 MB RAM.

For error #3 - How do I copy Windows XP installation files
to my hard disk?

Your not the only one trying to upgrade with no success.

I too wasted $107.00+tax to upgrade and I get error
messages and I'm running the second to the fastest
hardware you can buy along with 512mb DDR 400mhz memory
"Faster, Cleaner, Easier installs," What a Joke.......
 
Is 98SE even in the XP upgrade path? I thought one had to use Windows Me or
higher...

98, and 98SE, are both upgradeable (to WinXP Home, or pro). However it
is a big jump, with a larger than average chance of something not coming
out quite right.

tired -- it's been almost one week trying to upgrade to
XP. Microsoft is NO help -- can't even get through. Not
worth the hassle....
