Hi,

We are upgrading our PC'c from XP to XP Professional. After upgrade, when
the computer boots up there is a screen where there are duplicate Windows XP
Professionals to choose from. After 10 seconds it automatically choosese the
default.

How do I remove one of these so that I don't have the duplucate opertaing
systems to choose from?

THank you!
Jon

If you are properly performing an upgrade to Windows XP
Professional, there should not be a selection to boot to
two different Windows XP Professional operating systems.

Are you sure you are selecting the default "Upgrade" setup option?

To correct your issue:

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths"
to delete incorrect boot paths.

If the above does not correct the issue, then:

Right-click on MY COMPUTER and select:

Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit

CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file.
Your boot.ini file should then look similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
