Upgrading to xp errors

I recently bought the upgrade for my windows 98. It runs fine and
everything's looking good, but when it gets to where its on the 3rd step,
initializing for the installation, it freezes at 82 minutes left... every
time.. i rebooted and i've tried everthing but it keeps freezing. can ne1
help?
