I am thinking of upgrading to Office 2003 and was curious what
problems I might have in sharing documents with people still on Office
2000? How well do my Outlook mail rules convert over to 2003? What
problems could I encounter? Besides backing up my PST file, what
precautions should I take when upgrading?

Thanks!

Mike

Is Outlook 2000 in Internet Mail Only or Corporate/Workgroup mode? The
reason that I ask is that the only thing that you might have to do is
re-setup your accounts (create a new mail profile) since the upgrade from
Outlook 2000 Internet Mail Only to Outlook 2003 is a little flakey.

Outside of that, I use Office 2003 and share documents with Office 97 and
2000 users. Just remember to visit the compatibility tab under tools >
options panel in Word so you don't accidentally send them something their
version won't support.

My Outlook 2000 is Internet Mail Only. So what you are saying is that
at the worst I should have to recreate my email accounts?

Yep, you would have to create a new mail profile via the mail applet and
delete the old one. (don't copy. just create new)

You will not be able to save messages to disk and have someone with an
earlier version open them. Also, if you only upgrade Outlook, you cannot use
any prior version of Word as your email editor (not sure why people want
that bloated editor for email anyway!)
