Upgrading Program and sytem settings HAULS!!!!

I just loaded ( well at least tried to load) windows xp
on my computer and installation seems to be going
fine..then the setup screen gets to the where it
says "FINALIZING INSTALLATION: Setup will complete in
approximately 19 minutes". Below this the bar moves only
a small portion to da right and then stops. I tried
keeping the computer on all night and unpluggging devices
and it still dont seem to move. Even if i restart the
computer it stops at the same spot each time.....I have
antivirus software but i disabled it and i have Windows
Me....somebody PLEASE
HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Upgrading the system settings?" I'm confused but that's
normal. How are you doing this? A complete installation or
a 'fix' installation? That info might help someone with an
answer.
