Upgrading Presario PC 2000->XPPro. What about recovery CD?

I have a Presario 7000-series PC with Windows 2000 Professional.

Since there is no data on this machine that I couldn't afford to lose, I
have just done occasional backups to a "D" partition using the Recovery CD.

I will do one more backup just before upgrading to XP Pro. But then what?

1. Will the backup be good for anything if I wish to stay with XP Pro?
2. Will this same Recovery CD be useful for making future backups?
3. Will it be good for recoveries if needed?
4. Do I need to get a new Recovery CD for use with XP Pro?
5. Can I just bag this backup/restore method and use something completely
different after the upgrade? What do I do with the "D" partition then?

Thanks for any help!

The HP Recovery method was designed for a different operating system,
therefore it will not work with Windows XP unless you wish to return
to the original operating system. Windows XP Professional includes
it own Backup utility, and also System Restore.

That's fine. I take it then that after the upgrade the contents of the "D"
partition will be useless and I can use the partition for anything or just
repartition the drive. Correct?

What? I did the same thing a while back and I had to use recovery CDs to get
it back.
