Upgrading over Win 2k freezes

Trying to upgrade from Win 2000 to XP Pro. The installer sequence copies install files, then reboots, then hangs at the screen "Starting Windows Setup". The progress bar on this screen fills completely, then it hangs forever.

Any ideas please?
 
Did you run the Windows XP Upgrade Advisor to check and see
if your hardware is compatible with Windows XP?

Yes I did. It said everything was fine. AMD 1.0GHz, 256MB RAM, 12GB avail on hard disk
 
The same applied to me. After upgrade of 3 PC's my fourth
PC upgrade from Win2K is not successful. It hangs up
showing a black screen. I cancelled all of the USB
settings from the BIOS but it didn't help. Fresh install
also does not work.

In my case, Windows XP Upgrade Advisor was also run
stating only that the printer driver might not operate
and NETBEUI driver was not supported.
CPU is Celeron 1.5 GHz, chipset VIA ApolloPro133T
(VT82C694T), RAM 256 MByte, 2 GB available on hard disk.
 
I had the same thing happen to me. I ended up just
turning off the PC when it hung up because it wouldn't
respond to the 3 fingered salute. I turned it back on and
the upgrade gave me the option to pick up from where it
left off and it finished without a glitch.
