Trying to upgrade from W2K to XPpro (w/service pack 1)... worked great
on my home computer, no issues at all. Even updated to SP2 with no
issues.

But at work, the install gets to "25 minutes left" and hangs there for
awhile, then goes to "24 minutes" where it seems to stay forever. The
machine is not locking up as the progress bars in bottom right corner
are still moving, and MS text information pages keep changing.

It went to 23 minutes!!!!!! Yeah!!

Yep, it's hard to believe but the confuser eventually came back from its
break and sprang to life. I was just minutes away from hitting the power
button (or getting a hammer) and calling it a day, ready to go back to
W2K and forget all about XP. But like so many others, I did not want to
let the confuser "beat" me!

For whatever reason this particular install hung around the 24/25-minute
mark for 20 or 30 minutes, then dropped to 23m, 22m, etc. and finished
"normally". What threw me was that HD activity was almost nil for so
long so I figured the 'puter must be mad about something. Ahh, patience,
patience... Hey, I was really taken aback when I punched up Win update
and it worked!

All in all, two successful installs from W2Ksp2 to XPPro/SP2, right over
the top, no "clean install". I'll do that in a few more months when I
get real used to XP and a few more fixes come out.

Next chapter: On to a quest to rid "annoyances". Looks like uncle Bill
and his team came up with some real doozies this time around. Gotta love
those guys for knowing exactly what to write into the software code to
make things happen (or not happen) that really pisses people off. It
seems at times that every feature I want defaulted "On" is "Off" and
every feature I want defaulted to "Off" is turned "On". Now that
wouldn't be so bad IF there were always an easy way to make the change.
But nooooo, that would be to easy!! Gotta keep playing the "Let's see
how deep we can hide these options" game...
