I am trying to upgrade a notebook disk from 10GB to 40GB. I have been able to copy all files to the new disk except
HIBERFILE.SYS
PAGEFILE.SYS
GOBACKIO.BIN
and the restore file from the System Volum Information directory
When I then physically replace the disk it will not recognize it as a boot disk. I'm looking for the old "SYS" command function that will copy the boot files. WHat do I need to complete the task?

It sounds like you are trying to apply DOS techniques to XP. That is
not going to work! Pick up Ghost, clone the drive and then be sure the
new drive is marked 'active'. You can do that with any version (I
think) of fdisk or Partition Magic.

there are several disk cloning products available. are you able to connect
both drives to the laptop at the same time?

If not you may want to call around to some shops and see if they have a
drive cloner. I have one at work with notebook drive adapters works great.!

We use an Omniclone

If you work for a decent size company you might want to ask your IT guy for
a favor
