I have windows xp installed with 256M of memory. After
adding 2 256M cards for a total of 750+M, system won't
boot. It shows the additional memory and then says that
some system file is corrupted.

I removed the extra memory and it was able to restore the
system. I can't believe such a simple task as adding
memory should be this difficult.

What a I doing wrong?

Are the two newer 256MB memory cards the same speed as the older one??
Have you checked with your motherboard manufacturer to see if the 3 memory
card slots can be used at the same time???
Have you tried to install only one of the new memory card??

The new RAM is either defective, sub-standard, or incompatible.

It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module be compatible
with both the motherboard and any other RAM module(s) in the system.
Additionally, there are sometimes jumper switches on older
motherboards that need to be reset for the new RAM configuration.
Consult your motherboard's manual.
