upgrading from XP home to XP Pro

and I am having a problem. There is no hardware
incompatability, I checked. It loads the installation
files, reboots and hangs on the microsoft windows page(38
minutes so far) and doesn't get to the point where the
actual installation starts. I would prefer not to do a
full installation because I would like to save all my
settings. What little trick am I missing here?

Uninstall any antivirus program and physically disconnect all
peripheral hardware devices except the monitor, mouse and keyboard.

ok...every antivirus was uninstalled, nothing peripheral
because it is a laptop. and it still hung after loading
the installation files. got any more tricks or hints?

I am experiencing the same problem. I have a new laptop with Windows XP Office Edition with SP2 installed. I have a windows XP Professional Upgrade disk and the program load until the computer reboots and nothing else happens.
