I currently have a Dell Dimension PC w/Win98, Pentium III,
700mhz, 30GB hard drive and 768 MB of Ram that is 3-1/2
years old. The hard drive is failing, but it otherwise
works fine. I would like to get a new hard drive and
install WinXP as my operating system. Can I use a WinXP
upgrade or do I need to buy the full version? I don't want
to install the WinXP over my current Win98 but rather have
a clean install when I put in the new drive, but I don't
really want to pay for the full version either since I
really am just upgrading.

Don't buy an upgrade, they're nothing but trouble. buy
the full version, youwon't be sorry you spent the extra
money.

The upgrade should work just fine for you as well as save about $100.
An upgrade is capable of performing a Clean Installation or an Upgrade
Installation.
During a Clean Installation, you will need to insert your Windows 98
CD for a few minutes as qualifying media.

Upgrades are not trouble.
Since an Upgrade CD can also perform a Clean Installation, there is
nothing to be gained with the full version as long as Qualifying Media
is available.
Unless you consider lightening the wallet by $100 a positive effect.

Thanks. It beats buying a new PC!
