I am ready to upgrade form Office XP Pro to Office Pro 2003.

I don't have any problems with any of the Office files (Word, Access,
Excel etc) but want to make sure I don't have any hassles with
Outlook.

Can I just install over the top (into the XP Pro Directory) and assume
that my PST file will be picked up OK?

I will of course back up the PST file in any event, but are there any
tips or traps for new players?

Appreciate any advice from those who have gone before.

Thanks

Don't specify the folder; just leave it the default or at least don't point
it to the Office XP directory. The first time you start Outlook your account
information will be upgraded automatically so the pst-connection won't get
lost.

Before upgrading make sure all your add-ins for Outlook (if any already) are
Outlook 2003 compatible.

Yes, that should work without problem.

My present version of Outlook is not in the "Default directory'" ie I
installed it onto a different partition from the normal C:\Program
files directory. If I follow your plan, won't I end up with 2
versions of Office, my existing XP pro plus the new one?

Can see that Office 2003 will be able to pick up the PST file which is
in the default location C:\Documents and Settings\Chuk\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst but would
rather not have two versions of Office installed.
Before upgrading make sure all your add-ins for Outlook (if any already) are
Outlook 2003 compatible.
That makes sense - don't really have any other than Backup.

If you choose the upgrade option you'll also have the option to remove the
previous versions.

Note that the back-up add-in had an update for Outlook 2003. If you haven't
installed the update already; uninstall it. Then upgrade Office and then
install the latest version of the pst-back-up add-in.
