When I do the upgrade from ME to XP should I disconnect my
printer, scanner etc.while doing the upgrade? Any other
concerns I should attend to before updating? Thanks.

It is best if you physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
before upgrading to Windows XP. Of course, this would not include
your monitor, keyboard or mouse.

Greetings Lary,

Nah... There's no need to disconnect any of your hardware. It would be fine!
:)

Thanks and best of luck!

I have had problems with certain USB devices when performing upgrades to Win
XP Home and Pro. Play it safe and disconnect them.

Not good advice, especially considering that the scanner and printer may
be USB devices and almost all installation procedures for USB devices
are to install software/drivers for them FIRST, then connect the
devices. Since hardware drivers will definitely be different for XP vs.
ME it would be wise to upgrade with them disconneted.

Yes., it's generally best to have all external peripheral
components disconnected during the installation of an operating
system.

Printer I would leave connected. Scanners can be a problem: a USB one
should be OK to leave connected, but parallel port ones may never work
with XP at all. The drivers supplied usually worked in ways XP does
not allow, and makers now regard then as obsolete so are not providing
XP drivers.
