Nate

I currently have Win 98 and I want to upgrade to XP.
However, my computer sucks and I would like to format it
before I install XP. Will I have to install 98 again
first in order to use the Windows XP UPGRADE software?

Hi Nate
No you wouldn't, if you boot from the XP upgrade CD or start setup from a
dos bootdisk you will be prompted to insert a setup disc for an older
version of Windows as qualifying media. If you provide this you can then do
a clean install of Windows XP.
This disc must be a Windows 98 retail or original Microsoft OEM CD, this
process will not work with a recovery (ghosted) image of Windows 98.

First you need to determine if your system is up to the task of running XP.
Study up on the links below to make sure your upgrade is a success. Your
best bet is to prepare for a clean install, but first try the upgrade.
