Hi all,

It is very urgent. Who can help me?

I am looking for a way to update/upgrade/convert very fast more than 1000
files from word 2.0 to word 2003.
Can anybody help me with this problem?

I'm already looking for a way/solution for a few months and I didn't find a
way.

regards,

Greet

Won't Word 2003 just open them in the normal manner? is the file
extension "doc"? If so why do you need to "convert" them?

You can use the Batch converter in Word to convert them as a job lot, though
you will need the Word for DOS filter to do so (that is linked from the
downloads page of my web site if you don't have it). However when you have
the filter, why not just open the documents as you need them and save as
Word document?

Word 2003 just opens yes. But some information is lost. And we don't know if
that information was a picture or just the format or something else.
We need everything in the document like it was.
The problem files are made between 1990 and 1995. And it is very important
to save all the information as it was when they made those documents.

Thanks Graham, It seems to work.
I'm just going to test it before I put it in a batch job

thanks very much for your help.

Can you maybe tell me how I have to write such a batch job?

I'm very good in scripting.

I never wrote a macro.

Thanks in advance

Greet

You don't have to write a 'batch job' as the Batch Conversion Wizard is
supplied with Word (though is probably not installed by default). Re-run
Word/Office setup from the Windows control panel add&remove programs applet
and add the extra wizards.

Now I have noticed that all images are lost.
Is there maybe a solution to recover also all images that are in the
word-file?

The real problem is that the documents are articles and they should be the
same as they are saved 15 years ago when they were published.

thanks in advance

what do you see then? Fields? Empty rectangles?

Maybe it's just that you need to change to Print Layout to see floating
pictures?

Go to Help in Word 2003 and search for "Convert Documents",
then "Convert Several Documents At Once". You'll find
detailed instructions about the Batch Conversion Wizard.
Expect to need the Word installation disk to load it up. I
just did a batch conversion from Excel to Word 2002, and it
did a splendid job.

The wizard might be hung up, but more likely it has a popup
window presenting you with options. Microsoft has not
programmed it to appear on top of other windows, so do a
ctrl-tab to get to the Word icon and bring it up front.
