If I understand correctly..and someone please correct me if Im wrong here.....

If I have an original Win98II CD or WinME CD....then I can use the WinXP Pro upgrade CD to install ONLY WinXP PRO on a new unformated hard drive ..... so in effect it would be the same as having the WinXP PRO Full install CD...
Is this correct?

thanks

Windows XP Home or Pro upgrade can be used for a clean as well as an
upgrade installation, the same with the full version.
The only difference in installation is the upgrade will need to have
the qualifying media inserted for a few minutes.
You save about $100 buying upgrade instead of full.
However with the upgrade, the qualifying OS is tied to this computer
as the upgrade qualifier.

You got it right. Just follow the instructions on the link below for a clean
install. At some point you will be prompted to insert the 9x/ME disk to
prove qualification for the upgrade.

Thanks to Michael Stevens

Run the compatibility wizard if in doubt of your hardware and disconnect
everything except your mouse and keyboard before installation.
