I recently upgraded my home PC from Windows 98 to XP Pro. Everything seems to work fine except for the modem. If I use the device manager, it says the modem is enabled and the device is working properly. But when I use any software that tries to use the modem, it says something like "No usable device was detected on the machine" or "Unavailable - device missing".

My PC is on the supported list of hardware for XP and I even bought and installed a new XP modem by U.S. Robotics.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Thanks!

Did you check the U.S. Robotics site for updated drivers. Don't assume the
latest drivers were in the box simply because it's new. There's no way of
knowing how long the device was on the shelf or in some warehouse before
purchasing. Also, check U.S. Robotics website for issues such as this and
since it's a new modem, you might also contact their tech support as it is
still under warranty.
