I just upgraded my computer from my old PII 450 to an AMD
2800. Also upgraded my mobo to an Abit NF7S ver 2 and
added 512 K of Kingston 3200 ram. I'm still using my old
hard drives and CD roms, mouse, keyboard, etc. But when
I boot my new rig, windows xp (pro) won't boot. Tells me
to check my HD for virus and remove any new HD's or
controllers. Is there a workaround for this? Anyone got a
clue as to what I need to do to get the new AMD to
recognise the old PII?? tia for your help....

Normally, unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the
old one (same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.),
you'll need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade)
installation, at the very least:

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This may also require re-activation. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most
likely be able to activate via the internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
