Dear Sirs,

For several months, I had been using IE/Outlook Express 6.0/SP1 with no
difficulties. During that time, because of many thousands of Yahoo type
group emails, I decided to use my OE 6's Tools--> Options -->
Maintenance --> Store Folder option to change my Store Folder from my small
C drive, to a folder on my large, external USB D drive.

This was working just fine, after exporting once, all of the emails to that
drive (except for whenever I forgot to turn on the external/USB drive, then,
I would have to go through the above process (except for the export) to
change the Store Folder again to the D: drive. At that point, all of my
emails and many custom named folders always reappeared and functioned as
normal.

Today, though, after reformatting and reinstalling my C drive and Win 98 SE
OS, and after upgrading again via Windows Update to IE/OE 6, I then went to
switch over to my Store Folder once again.

However this time, after successfully switching, and first closing OE and
reopening it as instructed, all of my emails and custom folders *still are
not appearing*. Only the same blank or default folders and one initial
email in the Inbox remain.

I did Explore over to the D drive folder which contain my many thousands of
saved emails and dozens of custom folders, and there are several .dbx files
there.

If you could help me figure out what is going on and how to restore all my
saved, irreplaceable emails and folders, I would be so thankful.

Also, does anyone know if there is a way to save one's Tools--> Message
Rules across reinstallations of IE/OE?

Thanks,

David

Hi -

This is a group to support Outlook from the Office group of programs.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and is a quite different
program, despite its similar name..

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
Outlook Express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.outlookexpress.mac for OE for Macintosh

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

If you're accessing the Microsoft newsgroups through the MS Product Support
Services Community Newsgroups web interface, click
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?icp=InternetExplorer
to get to the Internet Explorer groups, then click the plus sign next to
your version of IE to see the link to the Outlook Express group for that
version number.

A good website for information on OE is:
http://www.tomsterdam.com/
