Shawn

I recently installed a new motherboard in my old computer.
I am now using a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe with a AMD Athlon
Barton 2800+. I was using a P4 before. After I installed
the MB, I cannot get into Windows XP Pro. The BIOS starts
fine, then it starts to try load XP, and it reboots after a
very short time. Do I need to reinstall XP?

You will have to perform a repair re-install of Windows for the O/S to
recognize the new hardware. You will also have to install all the M/B
drivers and reinstall all service packs and window updates. Time consuming,
but the only way to go, other that a clean format/install.

thank you both for your responses.

So I tried a "repair Reinstall" of Windows XP from the Cd.
I can now boot to XP, but my system restore won't work,
and svhost.exe is consuming all of my resources unless I
use the task manager to stop it. I also notice the standby
function is not available (still trying to get my computer
happy, so this is not important now, just in the long run).
Also, I think XP is still loading drivers for the old MB.

Thanks,
Shawn
