Windows ME or Windows 2000?
They are two different operating systems.
Windows 2000 can only be upgraded to Windows XP Pro, not Windows XP
Home.
Windows ME can be upgraded to either Windows XP Home or Pro.
Data is normally safe during the upgrade process.
Back-up any important data just in case.
