I am wanting to upgrade my cpu and motherboard and need
to find out whether I will need to re-install my os, (xp
home), or if I can just continue using the same hard
drive with all my info. Will it boot up as usual. Any
help appreciated. Thx

yes it is possible, once changed your MB, at next restar you will get a BDOD
screen
inser XP CD in your cd reader, verify that Bios points to CD like firs
startup device
once PC starts a message appears to press any key to start from CD, once CD
starts choose new install, setup will begin to search another XT
installation
when the old setup is found you will receive a message telling that to do
with that old installation MUST CHOOSE REPAIR)

BEWARE!!: to do that repair need to disconnect tour modem cable because
virus Blaster or virus Sasser can enter to your pc while doing the repair
tcp/ip is already open

when repair is done, enable again XP Firewall, if you have saved all XP
patches, including SP1, begin to install them, reboot when XP prompts to do
XP setup can prompt for drivers that are in the MoBo CD

goodluck
