I think I may have an incomplete upgrade to WinXP. Have a
Dell 8200 Dimension which had Win 2000 Pro OEM. Purchased
at retail the Win XP upgrade. Followed instructions for
the installation, everything seemed to go fine until it
wanted to upgrade Easy CD Creator 6.2 which is on my
system -- I had forgotten to shut off the Drag-to-Disc in
the system tray. The setup got itself into a loop that I
couldn't get out of in order to shut down Easy CD. I
tried to get the Task Manager up to use it to get me out
of the loop. That would appear to work, but something in
the setup routine just wouldn't give up. Finally, I shut
the machine off & rebooted; it took doing that several
times before I seemed to be able to get out of the setup.
When I restart my machine now, I get a "checking disk"
routine, maybe 1/3 of the time. It goes through some
index checking and sometimes on Drive D -- I no longer
have a drive D (the CD player and the DVD player/burner
have been assigned to E and F), so I don't know what it's
checking. And, the system isn't as fast as it should be.

So, what do you advise? I've looked over the KB and read
the "Repair Installation" tip. But, I'm sure it has risks
also.
