Upgrade to 2003 from 2007

I upgraded back to 2003 after the 2007 downgrade made my computer essentially
unusable any time any mail came in.

The process was easy, except for one serious problem with MSMAPI.DLL.

I found on the internet that it is to rename the file MSMAPI32.DLL to
MSMAPI32.OLD. And then restarted 2003. Then my upgrade worked.

Unfortunately, the 2003 upgrade isn't 100% clean. My browsers can no longer
find the default Mail client (and opens up multiple (many, many) browser
windows if I click on a mailto:), and I am looking for a solution to that
problem.

And while I liked the look of the 2007 interface, I prefer an application
that actually works, and doesn't freeze my computer any time mail arrives.

Personally I wish I had never touched 2007, and am upset that Microsoft
never seriously addressed the problem that so many of us had.

I also (happily) got rid of Instant Search.

So, if anyone has experience with restoring the email default (nothing to do
with "internet->programs" which is set properly) after the upgrade please
inform me.

Thanks.

They are working on it, trust me. Blindly releasing patching isn't the
answer either. Do you go over one night's ice?

Recreate your mail profile. This is recommended when doing an upgrade and
especially when performing a downgrade;

This is the first that I've heard that they are working on it.

For the past few months, since I first mentioned it, I haven't seen anyone
from MS even acknowledge that there is a problem with their software, rather
it has always been with some aspect of my computer's configuration. That is
why I am annoyed.

Thanks for the info on the mail profile. I'll check it out.

They seem to be isolated issues tied to computer and mail configurations and
not an overall issue with Outlook 2007. For instance; I don't have any major
performance issues on any of my machines. It's a bit of a perfect storm and
that is why not a single fix will work for all and makes troubleshooting
this issue much more complex. This is why (for the time being) finding out
what configuration you are using and making changes to that to a
configuration that is known to work without any major performance hits are
the suggested "fixes."

From my experiences in this newsgroup is that most of the slowness issues
are being caused by upgrades, misconfigurations, incompatible add-ins and a
not yet completed indexing. I'm not going to deny any performances issues
but I'm only saying that most of the claims are not fully grounded and
actually traced back to Outlook 2007.
