Upgrade Server (DFS Question)

We currently have a dfsroot shared between two Windows 2000 Advanced Servers. I am going to be upgrading these servers one at a time to Windows 2003 Server. If there is a time period when one gets upgraded and one does not, can I share the dfsroot between both operating systems
