While attempting to upgrade from xp home edition to the
professional edition, during the setup stage, a blue
screen error occurred stating that a
driver, "sunkfilt.sys", did not unload. The tried to
boot directly from the disk to no avail. I contacted HP
the computer mfgr. (recently purchased) and they said
it's the new softwares' problem. Tried emailing MS and
couldn't provide the PID because I haven't been able to
download it yet. Can someone please get me on the right
track and solve my problem?

Why cant you boot to the xp cd,usually tapping F8 key gets you boot options
Install xp cd,restart computer, enter the BIOS,boot options, select boot to cd driv
instead of hd,F8 works with my BIOS,although others use diffrent keys.Selectin
in BIOS should work,then boot to cd,select,install xp,new copy,xp formats the h
to pro.

I was able to boot up directly from the cd doing all the
things you mentioned but it still stopped at the end of
the xp setup with the error message about the sunkfilt
driver. I was attempting to do an "upgrade" not a "new"
installation. It's a new computer and didn't want to
lose any of the installed software. If I can't find how
to fix the sunkfilt driver problem, then my only
alternative may be to format the hd, if I want to have xp
professional. Any more suggestions? Thanks for your
input.
