upgrade nightmare

wierd problem,every time a disc is inserted into either
the cd rom or dvd drive windows freezes. recently have
installed a new MB(Gigabyte 2004 GT edition)new CPU(P4
2.8ghz prescot)1gb of ram(2x512mb DDR400 PC3200)if anyone
has any ideas will be gratefull for any advice.

Did you do a repair installation after changing all of those items?

formatting and doing a full install of XP home but even
this was a hardship as it kept freezing on install but
eventually got it everything now works ok but the
formentioned drives.
 
Is your power supply up to the job of running the system?
