I have been all over the place with this Win2000 SP3 to XP SP2 upgrade.
Short story is I think networking was corrupt prior to or got corrupted as a
result of the upgrade. Right now I am trying my second shot at repairing
the installation. Both times it has hung after the window to select
workgroup or domain.
I select the domain option and then respond with the domain administrator
name and password. The hour-glass. Only responds to a hard reset or power.
At this point I am guessing something hosed in the registry as I would
assume the repair would overwrite and bad files and provide any missing
files.
Anyone have any ideas on the process and what registry keys to tweak to
effectively uninstall networking?
If I choose "fresh install" instead of "repair" does XP start with a default
registry? Or will it still bring in the old registry, usernames, and
passwords?
Any other suggestions will be appreciated!
Thanks!
